The BizPort.org website consists of web pages you can access from the horizontal black menu under the logo at the top of the page.

Pages are divided into panes such as LeftPane, ContentPane and RightPane. You add content to the website by adding modules to a pane. This text you are reading now is in a Text/HTML module. Use the Text/HTML module to add text and images to any pane of any page.

When you are logged in as an administrator, the Control Panel appears at the top of the website. Expand or minimize the Control Panel using the little arrows at the top right. At top left you can change to View mode to see the website as visitors will or change to Edit mode to make changes to the website. The left section of the control panel contains controls to add pages and change page settings. The middle section contains module tools. The modules available to you are listed there in the Module dropdown. The right section of the Control Panel has tools for site-wide tasks including site settings and managing users, roles and files.

When you are in Edit mode, every module has a small triangle menu at the left end of the title bar of the module. Hover over that menu to see the options available to you. For example, in the Events module, there is an option to Add a New Event; or in the Text/HTML module, there is an option to Edit Text. One of the options will always be "Settings" to change the module settings. Another way to change module settings is to click the small paper and pencil icon at the bottom of every module. There will also be a link there to "Edit Text" or "Add New Event", again these are alternatives to using the triangle menu.

Add an Event to the Home page or the Events Page

  1. Open BizPort.org in Internet Explorer browser.
  2. Log in. and check that you are in “Edit” mode (top left of browser page).
  3. You can add an event to the calendar in the Home page or the Events page. At the bottom of either calendar, click the "Add New Event" link. All events display in both calendars.
  4. Type or paste the title of the event into the Title textbox. Required.
  5. Type or paste a summary into the Summary textbox. Recommended.
  6. Enter a description using the Rich Text Editor (like a word processor). Required. IMPORTANT: If you are pasting from MS Word, be sure to click the "Paste from Word" tool (with the "W" in it) in the first toolbar row. Paste in your description, check both check boxes and click OK. This removes unwanted code from MS Word.
  7. Enter the Start Date using the Calendar link to the right. Required.
  8. Type in the Start Time. Example: 8:30 AM. Required.
  9. Enter an Expiry Date using the Calendar link to the right. Required. (Enter the day after your event)
  10. If your description is small, that is 1-3 lines, then check "Expand in Place". If the description is longer leave this unchecked so the "View Details" link on the Home page will open to a new page for your larger description.
  11. From the categories list below, check any categories to which your event belongs. This will allow visitors to search for events in those categories.
  12. Click "Update" at the bottom to save your event.
